This Is Home
Ohio’s 14th Congressional District doesn’t fit neatly into any political box. It never has. And that’s exactly what Maria loves about it.
It is one of the most genuinely diverse districts in Ohio — not in the way politicians usually use the word, but in the truest sense. Different landscapes. Different economies. Different daily realities. Six counties, each with its own character, its own history, and its own version of the American dream.
Maria is learning this district — its people, its places, and what makes it special. She’s ready to listen and champion the needs of each of us.
Six Counties. One District.
Ashtabula County is one of the most beautiful and most overlooked places in Ohio. The longest county shoreline on Lake Erie. Rich farmland. A port city with a proud history. And some of the most resilient, hardworking people Maria has ever met — people who have been dealing with disinvestment, infrastructure neglect, and the opioid crisis largely on their own, without nearly enough help from Washington. Ashtabula County deserves a representative who shows up — not just at election time, but every single day.
Geauga County still feels like a place where people know each other and take care of their own. It’s farms, small businesses, and communities that don’t want a lot of noise — just things that work. People here care about their schools, their roads, and keeping their towns the way they are. They’re not asking for much. Just a government that shows up, does its job, and doesn’t forget about them.
Lake County is the heart of the district — a community of stability and pride, sitting along one of the world’s greatest lakes. From Mentor to Willoughby to Painesville, Lake County is home to families who have put down deep roots, small businesses that anchor their neighborhoods, and communities that take care of their own. The concerns here are real and immediate: rising healthcare costs, cost-of-living pressures, and a desire for steady, calm leadership that delivers results rather than just talking about them.
Mahoning County is a community built on the legacy of American industry and the ongoing work of reinvention. From Youngstown and its historic steel heritage to the small businesses and neighborhoods that continue to push forward, people here understand both what was lost and what can still be rebuilt. The focus today is on bringing back opportunity — good-paying jobs, stronger local investment, and real pathways for the next generation to stay and thrive in the Valley.
Portage County is a community on the move — home to Kent State University, a growing healthcare sector, and residents who care deeply about education, opportunity, and practical solutions to real problems. Portage County families are dealing with rising healthcare costs, transportation challenges, and a desire for pragmatic leadership that cuts through the noise and gets things done.
Trumbull County is the backbone of this district — a proud manufacturing community that has weathered decades of economic change and kept fighting. Warren and the surrounding communities know what it means to build things with their hands, to show up every day, and to ask only for a fair shot. Jobs, workforce development, and the cost of living are not abstract policy questions in Trumbull County. They are kitchen table conversations happening every single night.
Different Places. Same Heart.
Here is what Maria has learned traveling across all six counties:
The differences are real. A family in Mentor is living a different life from a family in Paris Township. A farmer in Geauga County has different daily concerns than a nurse in Warren. A student at Kent State faces challenges different from those of a retired autoworker in Mahoning County.
But beneath those differences — in every restaurant, every living room, every community meeting Maria has sat in — the same conversations keep happening.
Will Social Security be there when I need it? Why does my medication cost so much? Why does it feel like the rules are written for someone else? Is there a future here for my kids?
Lake County or Ashtabula County. Suburban or rural. Lakeshore or farmland. The questions are the same. The hopes are the same. The frustrations are the same.
That is the Massive Middle. And it lives in all six of these counties.
What This District Deserves
Ohio’s 14th has been represented by the same Congressman for 14 years. In that time, Trumbull has continued to fight for manufacturing jobs that keep disappearing. Ashtabula has continued to struggle with infrastructure and opioid recovery without nearly enough federal support. Geauga’s small businesses and rural communities have continued to be overlooked. Lake and Portage families have watched healthcare costs climb year after year. And Washington has continued to work for the powerful and well-connected rather than for the people of this district.
Fourteen years. Six counties. And the Massive Middle is still waiting to be heard.
Maria is running to change that — for all our district, for all of us, without exception.
A Note from Maria
“Every part of this district is a little different, but the people aren’t. It’s the steelworker in Warren who’s still proud of the work he does. The farmer in Geauga who’s up before sunrise. The small business owner in Mentor who took a chance and made it work. The family in Ashtabula doing everything they can to hold things together. The student in Portage trying to figure out if they can afford to stay here after they graduate. The retiree in Canfield watching every dollar and hoping things stay stable. That’s who I’m thinking about. Every one of them.”
